CUNA Mutual Group Committed to Advocacy-Level Support for Northwest Credit Unions
December 26, 2016
As 2016 comes to a close, credit unions stand at the ready to answer a renewed call for strong advocacy at all levels. Credit unions and the CUNA-League system are pulling together toward regulatory relief focused to strike down excessive regulations that impede service to consumers. In the Northwest, strong national partners like CUNA Mutual Group stand ready, as well.
What are we all advocating for? An operating environment that allows credit unions to better serve their members—, hardworking Americans reaching for financial security. These hardworking Americans deserve to have not-for-profit financial cooperatives—credit unions—available to them as a choice in financial services.
As credit unions continue to evolve their products and services to meet the changing needs of these consumers, data and insights become increasingly important. And, we can all look to and leverage credit union partners like CUNA Mutual Group for this consumer insight.
This year CUNA Mutual Group completed a significant amount of consumer research to understand millennials—a rapidly-growing segment that believes in the cause-driven mission of credit unions. Consider Brian, a millennial dad from Eugene, OR in this video.
In October, from the MAXX Convention stage, Northwest advocates cheered when I issued the challenge to reach for 75 percent market share in our region. Remember Brian? He is a part of our current 50 percent market share credit unions maintain here today. To reach the 75 percent milestone, we need to engage Brian, his family, and his friends. It’s the power of collaborative advocacy—mobilizing credit unions, members, business partners—to invite others to taste the credit union difference.
Also from the MAXX main stage, CUNA Mutual Group President and CEO Bob Trunzo shared his commitment to credit unions, and advocating for consumer choice. As a proud business partner and service provider to 95 percent of our nation’s credit unions, CUNA Mutual Group gives NWCUA confidence in our shared mission of advocacy and connecting members with the solutions that will empower them to influence their financial futures.
Bob, thank you and the CUNA Mutual Group team. We appreciate your advocacy-level support for our Northwest credit unions and the work that they do each and every day to serve consumers. We value your insights. We value your participation in our Credit Union Days at the Capitol. We value your commitment to growing market share for credit unions.
